The bachelor’s thesis Pleasant Uncertainty is an installation composed of both small and large-format oil paintings, a projection of an animated work and an encompassing sound installation. The installation is conceived within the catacomb spaces of the Terén Gallery in Brno, where the environment itself serves as a continuation of my work.
In my practice, I explore the grasping and representation of my subconscious through the creation of a hatchery-like atmosphere using sound and visual stimulation. In the paintings, I depict forms of eggs and seeds containing an inner space, in which corridors, entrances, passages, and sources of light appear, offering the viewer a temporary escape from external noise. My eggs, or seeds, function as capsules, waiting rooms, and sanctuaries outside of time and space. From these enigmatic and imposingly fragile forms, disrupted by various elements such as entrances and windows, emerges a sense of uncertainty that does not feel threatening, but rather strangely calming.
The sound installation, based on vocal elements and deep bass reverberations, enhances the intensity of the hatchery atmosphere and acts as a guide in perceiving the visual aspects of the installation, without strictly directing the viewer. My aim is to evoke a sense of immersion in the present moment and an acceptance of the unanswered, even when it pushes beyond our comfort zone.
