Abstract:

Baby Cogito is a series of projects that explores infantilism, cringe, irony, and the process of self-exposure. The first episode of the series, which explores the ambivalent nature of irony, was created in 2025. The second episode focuses on various modes of pairing through the lens of external observation: on how the gaze of another constitutes the image of the self, makes non-coincidence with it inevitable, and turns it into a structural principle of the project. Through a series of sculptural assemblages made from found objects, the project explores types of relationships between two elements, where the second is always correlated with the first, strives for similarity, but never fully matches it. As the work progressed, the focus shifted toward a broader analysis of non-coincidence as a normative condition. Ikebana served as the formal reference for the construction of the assemblages, where the trajectory of the gaze shapes perception and the relationships between elements. The theoretical framework of the project draws on the concept of “cuteness” as theorized by Sianne Ngai and the notion of “cruel optimism” developed by Lauren Berlant. Here, the aesthetic of the cute functions not only as a visual language but as an affective regime that holds contradiction within a single form – attraction and internal tension.

Předsedkyně komise představila členy komise. Následně studentka přečetla obsáhlou obhajobu bakalářské práce složené ze šesti dvojic objektů, které pojednávají o tématu párovosti a o dynamice vztahů založených na podobnosti. Po přečtení posudků vedoucí práce a oponentky studentka odpověděla na všechny otázky k rozpravě. Během rozpravy komise ocenila práci s principem dvojic, variacemi a opakováním, které se promítají do formální i významové roviny jednotlivých objektů. Pozitivně hodnocena byla autorčina orientace v kontextu současného umění. Byla vyzdvižena důslednost autorčiných rešerší a šíře teoretického zázemí, z něhož práce vychází. Studentka během rozpravy popsala proces vzniku jednotlivých objektů i způsob, jakým se koncept práce postupně vyvíjel. Část diskuse se věnovala architektuře instalace a práci s popisky jednotlivých děl. Zazněly rozdílné názory na jejich výrazné zapojení do celkové instalace. Zatímco někteří členové komise tento prvek vnímali jako funkční součást prezentace, zaznělo i, že by práce mohla přesvědčivě fungovat i bez něj. Diskutována byla také otázka materiálového řešení, zejména využití molitanu a jeho dlouhodobé udržitelnosti. Komise ocenila promyšlenost konceptu, důslednost zpracování i přesvědčivost obhajoby.
