This thesis explores threshold moments as subtle disruptions of the automated perception of everyday life. It focuses on situations in which ordinary reality briefly shifts and becomes consciously perceived – existing between the mundane and a more intensified experience of presence. The primary medium is video, based on the observation of non-staged situations, working with time, silence, and small micro-moments.
The practical part initially stemmed from recordings of a family environment, where threshold moments appeared in a light, everyday register. However, during the process, the work shifted towards a more demanding subject, which revealed the limits of this approach and led to a reconsideration of the original intention. The resulting installation therefore combines video with physical artifacts from a specific place, arranged in the form of a sample book. This sample book contains both material fragments and excerpts of dialogues captured in the video, allowing the viewer to re-enter the previously seen situation in a different way.
The work thus develops threshold moments not only as events within the video, but also as a principle of perception that emerges in the movement between image, memory, and the material trace of reality.
