Abstract:

In my thesis, I reflect on the emotional tension in today’s algorithm-driven society. I draw on the experience of constantly having to make technology-related choices, which leads to a sense of fatigue. We are intuitively guided toward various forms of experience and ever-changing modes of self-organization. Is fatigue, exhaustion, and isolation—or escape and screaming—the only response in this era of multiple crises? Sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and mental strain are becoming a sort of shared condition of the working class. I capture the fatigue or chaos that speaks to the system in which we operate. How does painting engage with this climate? Through the experimental nature of my previous works, which utilized the principles of overload and heterogeneity, I have arrived at monochromatic large-format painting and puppets. My work intentionally conveys ambiguous messages, thereby raising questions about the relationship between spirituality, psychology, and technology.

Studentka během obhajoby odpověděla na otázky z posudků a vysvětlila své uvažování o pomíjivosti použitých materiálů a technik, jejichž postupné blednutí vnímá jako součást divadelního aspektu práce. Komise diskutovala podobu instalace, zejména způsob umístění obrazů (opřených o zeď), a zvažovala, jak by práce působila při alternativním způsobu instalace (zavěšení), přičemž studentka obhajovala aktuální řešení. Debata se vedla také nad významem zvolených rámů, které výrazně ovlivňují čtení obrazů, a nad možností využití většího množství pláten, jež by podle některých členů komise lépe tematizovalo zahlcení a únavu. Komise dále otevřela souvislosti s tvorbou Hito Steyerl, její knihou Medium Hot, tématem artwashingu a ocenila nekonvenční přístup studentky k malbě i otevírání otázek nových forem autenticity. Diskutován byl také význam použitých materiálů.
