Abstract:

The diploma work, titled Overall, focuses on the importance of non-partner and non-romantic relationships—such as deep friendships, communities, or other emotional bonds—and their role in shaping personal identity. It explores how these relationships, existing outside the clearly defined structures of romantic partnerships, open up space for freer forms of closeness, trust, and mutual support.
In addition to the positive aspects of these relationships, the thesis also addresses themes of leaving, communication, uncertainty, and finding new boundaries, which are not understood here merely as moments of pain, but primarily as an open space – an opportunity for transformation, a different perception of intimacy, and the development of sensitivity.

The practical part of the work is based on the motif of a motorcycle suit, which is not understood here merely as a garment carrying its own sociocultural meanings, but primarily as a starting point for further exploration. Its cut, material, and individual components, such as protectors, become independent carriers of meaning. These elements are further deconstructed and transformed into objects in the form of stained-glass panels, small objects such as candles, and tin castings, which interact with one another and form a mutual dialogue.

The work draws formally on materials such as glass, Tiffany-style stained glass, screen printing, tin, and wax.
The key features of the materials and their transformations, within the context of interpersonal relationships, open up a new space for perception - one that does not close itself off into a fixed form, but instead acknowledges, that the situations of occasional groping and departure from established structures opens space for the new paths and possibilities.
