Abstract:

This thesis addresses the question to what extent contemporary systems for measuring and organizing time contribute to society’s alienation from natural cycles, personal experience, and collective values. It proceeds from the premise that modern society has in many respects drifted away from the rhythms of nature, and that the temporal system is one of the least questioned yet most consequential manifestations of this disconnection. The aim of the project is to explore possibilities for creating an alternative way of measuring and working with time that would disrupt dominant, globalized conceptions of time and offer different modes of perceiving, experiencing, and recording it. The resulting artwork guides viewers inward and prompts reflection on their own relationship to time and the calendar. The thesis also engages with themes of acceleration, globalization, the decolonization of time, the emergence of the calendar, the transformation of time as a consequence of capitalism, and the loss of cyclical worldviews.

The outcome is an interactive, large scale installation inspired by textile and installation art traditions. The work combines handcrafting of collected materials, natural objects and everyday artifacts to create a space for haptic experience that allows viewers to explore time beyond the established linear framework.

Process of defence

Studentka zahájila obhajobu přečtením autorské obhajoby. Následně byly přečteny posudky vedoucího práce a oponenta. Poté autorka odpovídala na otázky z posudků. Autorka představila instalaci zabývající se otázkou, do jaké míry současný časový systém přispívá k odpojení člověka od přírodních cyklů, sebe sama a kolektivních hodnot. Vysvětlila význam interaktivních prvků, práce s textem a záměr instalovat dílo do prostředí městské přírody. Důležitou součástí práce je téma plynutí času, jeho uvědomování a zapojení diváka. V diskusi komise ocenila citlivou práci s materiálem, propojení textové a vizuální složky, lehkost instalace i práci s tématy času, přírodních cyklů a každodennosti. Pozitivně byla hodnocena také práce s interaktivitou a zapojením publika. Komise doporučila dále rozvíjet možnosti instalace v kontrastu s různými prostředími a pokračovat v tematizaci vztahu mezi přírodností a lineárním pojetím času. Oceněna byla rovněž teoretická část práce a její návaznost na realizované dílo. Závěrem komise vyzdvihla sdělnost projektu, práci s vizuálním smogem a promyšlené propojení materiálu.
