Driven by its visual appeal and ability to guarantee process repeatability, automation in the food industry has gradually expanded into the retail sector, leading to the development of robotic cells capable of preparing products directly in front of the customer. This master's thesis focuses on the design and virtual commissioning of a robotic workstation for dispensing ice cream for demonstration and educational purposes. The introductory section presents a state-of-the-art review and a systems analysis of the given issue, based on which three conceptual designs were developed. Based on a techno-economic evaluation, a variant for dispensing soft-serve ice cream utilizing pneumatic actuators was selected and subsequently developed in detail for virtual commissioning purposes. This process involved creating a digital model in the Process Simulate software and programming the control algorithm within the TIA Portal environment. The final step consisted of integrating both software tools via the S7-PLCSIM Advanced communication interface, followed by control logic optimization and validation of the proper operation of the robotic cell.
