This diploma thesis documents the complex process of preparing and executing a large-scale painting—a mural—within a specific public space in the town of Jeseník. The primary goal of the project was to create a new visual landmark in the urbanistically fragmented and purely utilitarian environment of the bus station, which lost its aesthetic identity following radical demolitions in the 1970s. The side facade of the Petr Bezruč Theater, measuring 18 x 12 meters, was selected as the supporting surface, visually opening into the transit hub.
The theoretical framework and the conceptual idea are based on an analysis of the local context, with the central theme being the element of water. This is reflected in the work through its natural duality—as a life-giving and healing force associated with the world-renowned tradition of the Priessnitz Spa, as well as an untamed element in the form of destructive floods that have repeatedly shaped the region. The visual narrative itself is constructed around five symbols: a floral motif in the shape of a valley, a lotus as a symbol of rebirth, a bellflower representing the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area, the blue color of water, and a geometric arch symbolizing stability and cohesion.
The thesis maps the entire realization process in detail, from the application of a "bottom-up" initiative during negotiations with the Municipal Cultural Facilities in Jeseník, to securing multi-source funding (FaVU BUT grant and the City of Jeseník subsidy), and finally the technical execution. This involved night-time data projection of the motif, working from a high-lift platform, and managing technological procedures in relation to climatic conditions. The project culminates in the physical completion of the mural and its parallel connection to the building’s interior through an accompanying exhibition held within the theater.
