This thesis examines parcel lockers as a new element of the urban environment and explores their development, legal framework, spatial impacts, and relationship to contemporary urbanism using the city of Brno as a case study. The aim is to evaluate how these structures influence the form of public space, street permeability, the visual quality of the streetscape, and the relationship between private technologies and urban infrastructure. Methodologically, the thesis is based on an analysis of academic literature, legislative and methodological documents, complemented by a zonal
analysis of selected locations in Brno, as well as field observations and a questionnaire survey.
The results show that parcel lockers introduce significant spatial and functional changes into the city: in some locations they enhance service accessibility and contribute to the activation of the urban ground level, while in others they may cause visual clutter, conflicts with pedestrian movement, or inappropriate interventions in the character of a place. The analysis of Brno confirms differing conditions in the historic center, around transport hubs, and in more peripheral areas. The final part therefore discusses possible approaches to addressing these issues at systemic,
situational, and hybrid levels.
