This thesis deals with the design of a modular system for CNC gantry milling machines. The introductory section provides an analysis of the current state of the field, focusing on the design concepts of gantry machining centers of the lower gantry, upper gantry, and sliding table types. Based on an analysis of 153 machine tools from global and Czech manufacturers, the main structural components, materials used in the support structure, linear feed systems, spindle he-ads, rotary axes, and optional technological components are compared. Subsequently, using the methodology of the Brno School of Design and a systems approach, a modular system is pro-posed that enables the reconfigurability of gantry-type machine tools. The thesis includes a de-sign of an optimal structural variant of a six-axis CNC gantry-type milling center with a bottom gantry, intended primarily for metal machining. For the selected variant, basic structural de-signs, designs of linear guides, drives, and ball screws are carried out, along with a simplified FEM calculation of the support structure’s deformations in the ANSYS environment and the creation of technical documentation for selected structural assemblies. The calculation results revealed insufficient stiffness of the crossbeam and identified areas suitable for further structu-ral optimization. The thesis also includes a technical and economic evaluation of the proposed solution and recommendations for the further development of a modular system of CNC gantry machine tools.
