High power density traction electric motors are an essential component of modern personal electromobility applications. A key challenge during their operation is the enormous thermal load on the rotor, the cooling of which is significantly hindered by the insulating nature of the stator air gap. A fundamental increase in heat dissipation can be achieved through the appro-priate integration of active direct oil cooling using a hollow shaft. The approach presented in this thesis combines analytical calculations with complex 3D CFD simulations in Ansys CFX software to map hydrodynamics and heat transfer in detail at an operating speed of 14,000 rpm. This numerical procedure demonstrates the influence of centrifugal forces on the initiation of the so-called self-pumping effect and confirms that doubling the internal shaft diameter (from 20 mm to 40 mm) allows for an increase in the heat transfer coefficient α by more than 50%. However, as the cross-section increases, an adequate increase in the coolant volume flow rate is necessary to maintain cooling efficiency. The analysis further reveals the formation of negative pressures with a risk of cavitation in the rotation axis. Although the results obtained are of an approximate nature due to mesh density sensitivity, the thesis thus reveals fundamental design limits for the safe development of real motors and proposes shaft modification using radial nozzles for supplementary cooling of the stator end-windings.

Student seznámil zkušební komisi s průběhem a výsledky své závěrečné práce. Následně zodpověděl otázky oponenta: V práci popisujete problémy spojené s tzv. self. pumping efektem a následným možným vznikem virových struktur.
