With increasing demands on the quality, speed and reproducibility of sheet metal work in car repair shops, the need for partial mechanization of selected sheet metal forming operations is growing. This creates the need to design a machine that performs these works. The goal was to design a structurally simple, functional and economically affordable device combining selected sheet metal forming technologies into a single structural unit that respects the requirements set by a real car repair shop. Based on an analysis of the car repair shop requirements, an analysis of the sheet metal forming and a survey of commercially available equipment, a concept for a multifunctional machine with a central supporting column around which individual workplaces are arranged was designed. After the production of a functional prototype, testing was carried out in real operating conditions, where the functionality of individual workplaces, product quality, possibilities and functionality of tool sets and ergonomics of work were assessed. The final evaluation showed significantly lower production costs compared to commercial equipment. The proposed solution represents a functional, structurally balanced and economically affordable unit suitable for practical use in car repair shops.
