This bachelor thesis deals with the surface finishing of thermoplastics produced by the additive Fused Deposition Modeling method. It investigates and quantifies the effects of vibratory and rotary tumbling on the surface texture of ABS, PETG, and PLA materials, specifically focusing on the areal arithmetic mean roughness $S_a$. Four tumbling media were used for the process, namely beech wood chips, walnut shells, ceramic, and plastic media. The experiment was designed as an unreplicated factorial design with subsampling over time according to the Design of Experiments (DOE). In the practical part, a~custom rotary tumbling device was designed and constructed. The surface topography of the samples was evaluated using the non-contact Focus Variation optical method. Statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) demonstrated that in rotary tumbling, the choice of abrasive medium has a statistically significant effect on the final roughness of PETG and PLA materials. Conversely, in vibratory tumbling, the overall effect of the medium was not globally confirmed due to a high variance in the measured data. The most significant reduction in roughness was achieved during the rotary tumbling of the PLA material; these optimal parameters were finally applied to a real 3D printed model.
