This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the design of a tracked robot for cave exploration and the creation of its virtual twin. Due to the high risk of hardware loss in hazardous subterranean environments, testing the robot’s behavior and sensory equipment in a safe simulation is essential. A CAD model designed in SolidWorks was imported into the Webots simulator, with control and communication facilitated by the ROS2 platform running on the WSL sub- system. A key part of the thesis involves a detailed comparison between real-world and simulated sensors, specifically a LiDAR and an accelerometer. The LiDAR’s accuracy was evaluated by scanning both a real and a virtual wall and comparing the data using the RMSE metric. The accelerometer was subjected to static and dynamic tests, utilizing additive Gaussian noise to better approximate real-world measurements in the simulator. The achieved results quantify the deviations between physical and simulated sensors and confirm the feasibility of using the developed virtual twin for further development and safe testing of robotic platforms intended for extreme conditions.
