This bachelor's thesis deals with the unstable aerodynamic loading of adjustable vanes in VNT turbochargers. Unstable vane loading causes increased wear on the VNT mechanism and reduces the overall lifespan of the turbocharger. The aim of this thesis is to propose a design methodology for an adjustable vane and its axis of rotation, which could eliminate or reduce this unstable loading. The methodology was developed based on a baseline vane provided by Garrett Advancing Motion. From this baseline, eight additional variants were created: four featuring a modified axis of rotation and four featuring modified profile geometry. All these variants, including the original vane, were then tested using a simplified CFD simulation. The outputs of the simulation were the values of aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the vane. Based on these values, all variants were compared, and the optimal variant, which improved the aerodynamic loading compared to the original vane through either its shape or the position of its axis of rotation was selected.
