The thesis deals with the design of a steam boiler with natural water circulation that burns biomass in the form of wood chips on a grate. The boiler´s steam output is 35 t/h of superheated steam with parameters of temperature 460 °C and pressure 4,3 MPa, the temperature of the feedwater entering the boiler is set at 105 °C. The first part of the thesis performs a stoichiometric calculation to determine the amount of combustion air and the resulting flue gases based on the specified fuel composition, which is wood chips. This is followed by the determination of the thermal efficiency of the boiler, fuel consumption and boiler power output. The main part of the thesis deals with the thermal calculation of the combustion chamber and individual heat exchange surfaces of the boiler. The calculation also includes a dimensional design of both the combustion chamber and individual heat exchange surfaces of the boiler. Their layout is in the basic drawing documentation, which is part of the appendix of this thesis. The basic balance diagram of the biomass boiler is also part of the thermal calculation. In the final part of the thesis, pressure loss calculations are performed for both the water/steam side and the flue gas side, and the risk of corrosion of individual heat exchange surfaces of the boiler is evaluated.
