This bachelor thesis deals with low-carbon structural steels and their properties. The theoretical part describes the designation and classification of steels according to applicable standards. It also summarizes the basic issues of steel weldability and the strengthening mechanisms of low-carbon steels, especially the influence of grain size and matrix composition. Selected steels S235JR, S355J0, DC03, B500B and STRENX 700MC are characterized in more detail in terms of microstructure, mechanical properties and areas of application. The experimental part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of selected examples of structural steels. Chemical, metallographic and mechanical analysis was carried out on the selected steels. The obtained results were compared with theoretical expectations and characteristic properties of individual types of low-carbon steels.
