This master's thesis investigates the micromechanical failure mechanisms at the interface formed between a high-strength AA 7075 aluminium alloy substrate and a Ti Grade 23 coating deposited via the progressive Cold Spray technology, which minimizes the formation of a heat-affected zone (HAZ) and intermetallic phases. The primary objective of this work is a comprehensive analysis of the interface and its failure behaviour under mechanical testing. To achieve this, a wide range of mechanical tests were performed during the experimental phase, with in-situ monitoring conducted using a digital extensometer utilizing a digital image correlation (DIC) system. The data acquired from mechanical testing are subsequently validated via finite element method (FEM) numerical simulations and further supported by microstructural and fractographic analyses. The research also includes an investigation into the formation of intermetallic phases using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The findings contribute to the development of advanced hybrid (bimetallic) structures with potential applications in the aerospace, automotive, and defence industries.
