This bachelor’s thesis, conducted in collaboration with Wacker Neuson, focuses on the strength analysis of the dozer blade of the EZ26 compact excavator using unidirectional DEM-FEM co-simulation. The goal is to predict the stresses on the structure during interaction with loose material and thus prevent permanent deformations as early as the design phase. A virtual soil model was created and calibrated in the Altair EDEM environment based on experimental measurements of the supplied sample. Subsequently, specific work cycles were simulated, including pushing material with the entire and half of the blade surface, working on an inclined surface, and impact contact with an oversized element. The resulting contact force fields were then analyzed for stress and strain in Altair SimSolid without the need to create a computational mesh. The results show that while the absolute maximum force on the machine occurs during symmetrical surface pushing, the critical condition for structural design is the asymmetric loading of its edge. This eccentric resistance induces significantly higher local stresses and deformations in the tool due to additional bending and torsional stresses.
