Accurate determination of Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is a key prerequisite for effective nutritional diagnostics and planning, particularly in the physically active population. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to evaluate the accuracy of ten commonly used predictive equations in comparison with the reference method of indirect calorimetry and, based on the obtained data, to propose an optimized predictive model. The study sample consisted of 191 individuals (124 men and 67 women) from the active Czech population. Measurements were performed using the Cortex MetaLyzer 3B system. Statistical analysis demonstrated that all tested equations show a significant systematic error with a strong tendency to underestimate actual energy expenditure in the observed group (bias ranging from -581 to -293 kcal/day). In response to these findings, a new predictive model was developed using machine learning methods. On the validation dataset, this model eliminated systematic bias (+2.7 kcal/day) and achieved higher accuracy than standard calculation methods. The thesis confirms the limited validity of historical equations for the current sporting population and offers a more accurate tool for RMR estimation.
