This diploma thesis focuses on the development of an urban design study for the central part of the city of Prostějov, with an emphasis on strengthening compactness, permeability, and the long-term sustainability of the urban environment while respecting the historical urban values of the area. The proposal is based on a comprehensive analysis of the existing urban structure and responds to current spatial and functional issues, including fragmented development, unfinished urban blocks, limited permeability, the dominance of car traffic, and the underutilized potential of public spaces and blue-green infrastructure.

The proposed solution addresses these issues through the completion of unfinished urban blocks, the transformation of barrier areas, the improvement of public spaces, and the promotion of pedestrian, cycling, and public transport. An important part of the proposal is the strengthening of the city ring boulevard, the creation of new urban landmarks, the enhancement of the city’s legibility through visual and compositional relationships, and the integration of sustainable stormwater management principles.

Furthermore, the proposal develops the system of public spaces, restores urban greenery, and revitalizes water elements with the aim of improving the quality of public life in the city centre and increasing its climate resilience. The outcome of the thesis is a proposal for a compact, functionally balanced, and vibrant urban environment that supports the everyday life of both residents and visitors to the city.
