This bachelor’s thesis focuses on machine learning and presents one of its possible applications in materials science. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into three sections. The first section deals with molecular dynamics and the ab initio DFT method as a source of input data for molecular dynamics simulations. The second section introduces machine learning together with the VASP simulation package. The third section presents the fundamentals of lattice vibrations and the related thermodynamic quantities. In the practical part, a trained potential was tested in molecular dynamics simulations of an Ag–Pb alloy, and its accuracy was subsequently evaluated against experimental data and pure ab initio calculations. The resulting trained potential proved to be sufficiently accurate in comparison with pure ab initio calculations and, in some cases, even showed better agreement with experimental data than ab initio methods due to its ability to include anharmonic effects. However, the obtained potential systematically overestimates the volume of the elementary cell compared to experimental data. This inaccuracy is already present in the input ab initio training data and therefore does not originate from the created potential itself.
