The performance of a hydrocyclone is significantly dependent on the formation of velocity and pressure fields responsible for the generation of centrifugal forces. In the hydrocyclone head, a sharp flow transition occurs between two compartments, which influences the flow pattern in the remainder of the cyclone. Partial separation of the head could smoother this transition, which could have a positive effect on the properties of the hydrocyclone. The main objective of this thesis is to design a hydrocyclone with a separated head and subsequently compare it with a conventional hydrocyclone. A model of a standard cyclone and two hydrocyclones with a separated head are developed. These are then subjected to CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent. Afterwards, the properties of these hydrocyclones such as separation efficiency, pressure drop, centrifugal acceleration and velocity distributions are compared. The results show that separating the head leads to a reduction in pressure drop, but also to a decrease in separation efficiency compared to the baseline hydrocyclone.

Poté, co komise studenta přivítala, tak začal obhajobu prezentací své závěrečné práce. Po přečtení posudků zodpověděl otázky oponenta. Následovaly otázky komise: Byl proveden rozbor tangenciální a radiální složky rychlosti? Jakým způsobem by bylo možné ovlivnit tvar rychlostního pole? Z jakého důvodu byly vybrány částice z PVC pro vizualizaci proudění? Proč je použit zrovna kuželový tvar hydrocyklonu? Student zodpověděl všechny dotazy ke spokojenosti komise.
