To experimentally observe the behaviour of a porcine hip joint in a biotribological simulator, it is necessary to ensure reliable clamping of the femur and acetabulum. Due to the atypical geometry of biological specimens, standard clamping elements designed for conventional machine components cannot be used. This bachelor’s thesis deals with the design of a fixture for clamping an animal hip into a biotribological pendulum simulator used in the laboratories of VUT FSI. The literature review section summarizes the initial biomechanical and tribological issues, along with the properties of the hip joint and the requirements arising from experimental measurements. Concepts utilizing predefined parameters from research also serve as a basic model for further use in the conceptual design. The most suitable design solution is further developed. The design is therefore implemented in a simulator, which requires rapid sample exchange while maintaining the ability for samples to rotate and position. The result of the thesis is a design proposal for two interconnected subassemblies for securing the femur and acetabulum. The functionality of the selected mechanical structure is verified by calculation. The design is further converted into a prototype manufactured using additive manufacturing technology. The proposed solution forms the basis for experimental measurements on animal joints and for the further development of biotribological testing methodology.
