Abstract:

The subject of this diploma thesis is the revitalisation of the historic core of Hostěradice, focusing on the restoration of the historic town hall, the transformation of its surroundings, and the completion of the gap site with new development. The area lies in the centre of the village, in direct contact with the square, main transport routes, and civic amenities. Today, the space is dominated by car traffic, unorganised parking, a weakened public function of the square, and the unused potential of the town hall. The proposal restores the historic layers of the building, removes inappropriate interventions, and introduces new functions to create a lively cultural, community, and social centre.

The proposal builds on the historical role of the town hall as a centre of administration, social life, and local identity. Despite later alterations, the building has preserved a valuable Gothic-Renaissance core, vaulted spaces, stonework elements, and a prominent position within the square. Restoration is therefore understood not only as technical reconstruction, but as the reintegration of the town hall into village life. The building accommodates a cultural centre, café, exhibition and workshop spaces, a wine cellar, and a community gym. The adjoining new building completes the street structure and provides community housing for seniors with assistance and necessary facilities.

The urban design transforms the square from a traffic-dominated area into a clear public space with better organisation of movement, parking, and areas for staying. Traffic access is preserved, while pedestrian movement, greenery, seating, a water element, and the forecourts of historic buildings are strengthened. The Marian column and the town hall are reintegrated into the spatial composition of the square as natural parts of the public space. The revitalisation therefore aims not only to restore individual buildings, but to create a functional village centre linking everyday movement, community life, culture, and historical memory.

The environmental aspect is conceived as a natural part of the renewal of the historic centre. The design uses durable materials, grass paving in parking areas, preserved and newly planted greenery, a water element, and rainwater retention. Traffic calming, the relocation of part of the parking, and the strengthening of pedestrian routes help make the centre more pleasant, safer, and more actively used. The aim of the thesis is to create a contemporary, functional, and dignified complex that respects the historical value of the town hall and brings new possibilities for cultural, community, and everyday life in Hostěradice.
