This master’s thesis deals with the mechanism of sound generation of the percussion musical instrument known as the woodblock, classified as an idiophone. The aim of the thesis is to create a numerical model using the finite element method in Ansys® MAPDL™ software and subsequently analyze the vibroacoustic behavior of the instrument with a focus on the influence of the surrounding acoustic environment and structural-acoustic interaction. First, a structural model of the woodblock without considering the surrounding air is created, on which modal and transient analyses are performed. Subsequently, the model is extended to include the surrounding acoustic environment and a fluid-structure analysis involving the interaction between the instrument structure and the surrounding air is carried out. The thesis also includes a spectral analysis of the resulting sound using the Fast Fourier Transform. The obtained numerical results are compared with experimental data published in the scientific literature and with the analytical model of a Helmholtz resonator. The results show that the resulting sound of the woodblock is not generated just by vibrations of the instrument structure itself, but is also significantly influenced by the resonance of the air cavity and the interaction with the surrounding acoustic environment.
