This bachelor's thesis focuses on the preparation and characterization of two-dimensional (2D) molecular thin films and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on Ag(111), Au(111) and graphene on Ir(111) surfaces. The molecules 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP) and 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexathioltriphenylene (HTTP) were used as the basic building blocks for these structures, which are coordinated with iron atoms during the formation of the MOFs. The preparation and characterization of the thin films were carried out under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions. They were synthesized by physical vapor deposition (PVD), and the subsequent characterization was performed using low-energy electron microscopy (LEEM) and diffraction (LEED), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). These techniques enable complementary structural and chemical characterization of the prepared films. The thesis describes HHTP molecular films on all of the used substrates, the FeHHTP MOF on Ag(111), the HTTP molecular film on graphene, and the FeHTTP MOFs on Ag(111) and Au(111). The results of this work will contribute to a better understanding of the properties of triphenylene thin films and MOFs, and can serve as a foundation for research into topological properties or single-atom catalysis.
