This bachelor's thesis deals with the design of a second-generation solution for AEG-type battery-powered narrow-gauge locomotives, which are used by Společnost moravských parkových drah z.s. The analytical part identifies the main problems, namely the uneven tensioning and contamination of the wheelset drive chains, an unreliable parking brake combined with the absence of an air brake, insufficient ventilation causing the batteries to overheat during the summer months, and an unsuitable coupler design. Within the conceptual and engineering design, a new drive system is proposed. For safe braking and securing of the vehicle, a compact brake unit was developed, combining a manual parking brake with an SMPD pneumatic brake. The coupling mechanism was completely redesigned into a solution with minimal adverse effects on the connected wagons. The overheating issue was partially resolved by enabling airflow through the engine compartment. The outcome of the thesis comprises specific design proposals and modifications that significantly contribute to enhancing the reliability, safety, and overall service life of the locomotive.
