This final thesis addresses the issue of industrial heat pumps and the design of a steam turbine as a prime mover. The theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to an overview and classification of heat pumps, a description of their operation, and an analysis of the main structural components, such as compressors, heat exchangers, and expansion valves. The practical part focuses on the detailed thermodynamic calculation and structural design of the governing stage of a steam turbine intended for driving a compressor. The thesis also includes a parametric study examining the influence of various operating parameters on the internal thermodynamic efficiency of the turbine and compares the conceptual drive arrangements using a gearbox versus a direct-drive configuration. The outcome is an optimized design of the flow path and velocity triangles for the defined operating conditions.
