Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis focuses on the design of an industrial building intended for the production of branded women’s apparel, contributing to the expansion of employment opportunities in the given locality. The project builds upon an architectural study developed within the course BGA036 Architectural Design Studio 5 and further elaborates it into a comprehensive architectural and technical design. The designed site is located on the edge of the Brno–Medlánky district, near Purkyňova Street, in an area characterized predominantly by industrial and administrative functions. According to the valid spatial planning documentation, the plot forms part of an area with a commercial and operational character, to which the proposed industrial building naturally relates. The massing of the building is based on a simple cuboid form, partially embedded into the terrain on the northern side of the site. A distinctive architectural feature is the folded metal facade, which contrasts with the otherwise simple massing of the building. The load-bearing structure is designed as a monolithic reinforced concrete frame. The building is conceptually designed as a two-storey structure functionally divided into production and auxiliary operations. The first above-ground floor accommodates administrative spaces, employee facilities, and technical rooms, while the second above-ground floor is primarily dedicated to production and storage areas. An atrium runs through the building, bringing natural daylight into the interior spaces. The building is designed to be fully barrier-free. An extensive green roof is proposed on top of the building. Vehicular access to the site is provided from Purkyňova Street on both the northern and southern sides. Parking spaces are designed as covered and are located in the western part of the first above-ground floor, while the service access for deliveries is situated on the western side of the building. The surrounding area is complemented by greenery and newly planted trees.
