The bachelor’s thesis assignment is the design of a new kindergarten building in the municipality of Bochoř. The proposed building is located on plots no. 1340 and 1356. The requirement was to design a kindergarten with the highest possible capacity, as new family houses are being constructed in the surrounding area. The kindergarten is therefore designed as a three-class facility with a capacity of 18 children per class, resulting in a total capacity of 54 children. The building is designed with two functional purposes: the first above-ground floor serves the kindergarten, while the second above-ground floor contains a multifunctional hall primarily intended for the municipality of Bochoř and for events organized by the kindergarten. These two operational units are functionally separated so that they can operate independently. The kindergarten building is designed as a non-basement, two-storey structure. In terms of massing, it is conceived as a cuboid with an attached connecting volume in the shape of the letter L. The multifunctional hall, also in the form of a cuboid, is located on the second above-ground floor, set back from the main volume of the building and differentiated in terms of materials. The building includes separate entrances to the kindergarten and to the multifunctional hall. The main design concept was to create a subtle, non-intrusive building that provides a pleasant environment for children. The building is constructed using large-format calcium silicate masonry units, and the floor structures are formed by prestressed concrete panels. The flat roof above the first above-ground floor is designed as an extensive green roof, while the roof above the multifunctional hall is finished with bituminous waterproofing membranes. The interior spaces of both the kindergarten and the multifunctional hall are maximally daylit from the garden area, and the windows are equipped with external blind boxes to allow shading. Emphasis is placed on spatial flexibility. In terms of materials, the building is finished predominantly in white, complemented by timber cladding that highlights selected parts of the kindergarten and the multifunctional hall. The site is complemented by a welcoming entrance forecourt, parking spaces, and a newly constructed pedestrian walkway that facilitates access to the building.
