The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to design and optimize the preparation methods and composition of cosmetic oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. The thermodynamic stability and rheological properties of the prepared final hand cream formulas, designated as R2 and K1, were monitored during a threemonth storage period. Emulsion stability was evaluated using an analytical centrifuge (LUMiSizer), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and optical microscopy. Sedimentation analysis and rheological measurements were performed at 25 °C corresponding to storage conditions and at 37 °C simulating application on human skin. The results showed that both formulas exhibited high stability, although with different advantageous properties. Formulation R2 demonstrated higher kinetic stability at laboratory temperature, slightly higher thermal stability in DSC analysis, and more favourable rheological parameters in terms of system stability. In contrast, formulation K1 exhibited higher stability at application temperature, smaller changes in microstructure observed by optical microscopy, and better sensory evaluation by the respondents. The results of this work may contribute to a better understanding of the thermodynamic stability of cosmetic emulsions under different conditions while also highlighting the need to find a balance between system stability and the resulting sensory properties of the final product.
