The subject of this bachelor thesis is the restoration of the Medov in Heřmanův Městec. The concept changes the current function of the accommodation to an educational function, a primary art school. The architectural study also includes a design for the modification of the adjacent Masaryk Square. The technical part only deals with the Medov building. The parcel is in the eastern part of the town Heřmanův Městec. The surrounding area consists of residential buildings and a castle on the south side. The main idea was to cleanse the building of later, insensitive modifications. The interior walls that disrupt the original single-wing layout will be demolished. The design proposes bricking up modern openings that do not respect the axial layout of the building. Furthermore, to improve movement around the premises, the two courtyards of the building have been connected by a new passageway. On the second floor, the existing gallery will be extended thanks to a new extension. This will create a more spacious heated corridor with cloakrooms for classrooms and easy movement for people with limited mobility. The building is divided into individual functional units according to the wings of the building. In the part facing the square, the art department is located on the 1st floor in the south corner, with a café on the other side. In the part facing the side courtyard, there is an apartment for temporary accommodation and a caretaker's apartment. The dance department with its own facilities is in the part facing the river. The remaining wing of the building is entirely dedicated to the music department. The piano nobile facing the square houses the administration and a concert hall, which can also be used for exhibitions and social events in the city. The new extension of the gallery is designed in a modern style to clearly separate it from the original building. The facade is designed as a glass frame to give it a lighter appearance. At the same time, a partially covered courtyard passageway is created underneath it. The main inner courtyard serves as a café seating area and a quiet place to sit in the shade of a tree, and it is also possible to hold outdoor events here. The side courtyard has parking lots for school employees. The whole concept is based on simplifying movement around the complex and within the building itself. At the same time, its decorative features on the exposed sides have been retained. The building is designed in soft colors to preserve the dominance of the neighboring castle.
