The subject of this bachelor thesis is the design of a new accommodation facility at Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou Castle. The design is based on a study prepared as part of studio work in the sixth semester of study and has been further developed to the level of construction documentation.
The proposed building is located opposite the castle, on the northern edge of the castle grounds, where it replaces an unsuitable municipal technical services building. The architectural concept of the building is derived from the castle’s floor plan composition, which is reflected in the angular C-shaped layout of the new building. At the same time, the design responds to the principles of rural architecture, particularly through the use of a gable roof, gable walls, and proportional mass articulation. These traditional elements are complemented by contemporary architectural features, such as French windows transitioning into dormers in the attic, the use of charred wood in combination with a folded metal roof, and the insertion of a glass hall in the center of the building, which forms the main entrance.
The glass hall also functionally and visually divides the building into two L-shaped masses. As a result, the building is divided into a right wing for accommodation and a left wing for social and operational purposes, with accommodation in the left wing located only on the second floor. This layout enables flexible operation of the building throughout the year and responds to both the seasonal character of its use and the operational requirements of the site.
The ultimate aim of the design is to breathe new life into the castle grounds through the new accommodation building and to create a setting for social and cultural events, weddings, celebrations, and other occasions. The new building also enhances the attractiveness of the historic castle and revives public life in the area, which is also associated with the personality of Alfons Mucha.
