The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is the design of a new experimental musical instrument and the subsequent realisation of a prototype. The design is based on an existing instrument – the banjo – where, instead of conventional plucking, the strings are excited using electromagnetic coils. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the the fundamental principles essential for the functionality of the entire design. The practical part then deals with the realisation of the instrument and its individual components, together with a description of the modifications made to the instrument compared to the original design, and an evaluation of the use of the newly created musical instrument. The appendix contains drawings of the original instrument design and circuit diagrams, as well as drawings of the final version after the modifications described in the practical part. The electronic appendix includes the designed printed circuit boards and a model of the coil’s structural element.
