Abstract:

This doctoral dissertation focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and degradation study of a hybrid nanofiber composite containing metal–organic structures (MOFs). Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber structures were prepared in four variants—based on iron, zinc, zirconium, and chromium. These variants were systematically compared from both chemical and material perspectives, leading to conclusions and recommendations regarding their potential applications. The dissertation also includes a detailed analysis of the degradation of each type of structure, which is essential for their prospective use, for example, as nanofiber sensors or filters.

Supervisor’s report
prof. Mgr. Dinara Sobola, Ph.D.

The doctoral thesis submitted by Ing. Tatiana Pisarenko addresses the synthesis, characterization, and degradation behavior of hybrid nanofibrous materials based on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and selected metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). The chosen topic is current and scientifically relevant, particularly with respect to the development of multifunctional nanomaterials for advanced technological applications.

The theoretical part of the thesis is well structured and demonstrates a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of electrospinning, PVDF polymorphism, metal–organic framework chemistry, and MOF–polymer hybrid systems. The candidate provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the art and clearly identifies existing limitations, especially in relation to material stability and degradation under external thermal and optical stress.

The experimental part of the work represents a substantial and original contribution. The candidate successfully prepared electrospun PVDF nanofibers incorporating MOFs based on iron, zinc, zirconium, and chromium. The fabrication process was systematically optimized, and the resulting materials were analyzed using an appropriate and wide range of experimental techniques. Particular emphasis was placed on the investigation of degradation mechanisms under broadband laser irradiation and thermal loading, which significantly extends the relevance of the results beyond standard material characterization.

The obtained results are presented clearly and evaluated in a logical and scientifically sound manner. The candidate demonstrates the ability to interpret complex experimental data, compare individual material systems, and formulate justified conclusions regarding their stability and potential applicability. The conclusions are consistent with the stated objectives of the thesis and are adequately supported by experimental evidence.

During her doctoral studies, Ing. Tatiana Pisarenko worked independently and responsibly. She demonstrated very good experimental skills, a systematic approach to research, and the ability to critically assess her results. The formal quality of the thesis meets the requirements of Brno University of Technology; the text is clearly written, figures and tables are appropriately prepared, and the references are relevant and properly cited.

Based on the above assessment, I conclude that the submitted doctoral thesis fulfills all requirements for a doctoral dissertation. I therefore recommend that the thesis be accepted and that Ing. Tatiana Pisarenko be allowed to proceed to the doctoral defense. Points proposed by supervisor: 100
