This bachelor’s thesis examines the impact of municipal waste landfills on groundwater quality. The theoretical section includes a literature review focusing on the characteristics of waste types and landfill types, the process of leachate formation, and its composition and toxicity. It also describes the mechanisms by which pollutants penetrate the rock environment, the significance of the monitored physicochemical indicators of water quality, and the current legislative framework for water and waste management. The experimental section includes findings from practical participation in the autumn groundwater monitoring, which served to familiarize the author with the methodology and technical specifics of field sampling. The focal point of the practical section is subsequently a retrospective analysis of long-term data on selected inorganic and organic pollutants as well as heavy metals at two hydrogeologically distinct sites – the Únanov landfill and the Žabčice historical contamination site. The evaluation results show a stark difference in the extent of environmental impact depending on geological conditions. While at the Únanov site, a natural clay barrier effectively prevents the widespread spread of contamination and limits pollution to a local area, the Žabčice landfill, lacking a base seal and situated in permeable gravelly sand, causes massive widespread degradation of groundwater. Extreme levels of dissolved substances, sulfates, chlorides, and toxic ammonium nitrogen have been detected at this site. The outcome of this study is a comprehensive assessment of environmental risks, which underscores the need for continuous monitoring and protection of hydrogeologically vulnerable areas.

Studentka formou prezentace představila svou bakalářskou práci, její náplň a výsledky. Následovalo čtení posudků vedoucí a oponenta a byly zodpovězeny vznesené dotazy. Do diskuze se zapojili i další členové komise s těmito otázkami: prof. Ing. Studentka prokázala velmi dobré odborné znalosti a schopnost samostatně a přehledně prezentovat dosažené výsledky.
