This bachelor's thesis deals with the behaviour of individual polymorphic modifications of calcium carbonate during the heating process. This includes the phase transformations of vaterite and aragonite into calcite, followed by the decomposition of calcite into calcium oxide, which has not been described in academic literature yet. The first part of the work focuses on the synthesis of pure polymorphs, which includes calcite, aragonite, and vaterite. The pure phases were analysed by using XRD analysis, Raman spectroscopy, and the SEM method. Thermal stability was characterized using HT-XRD and TG-DTA methods in combination with EGA (MS and FTIR) analyses of released gases. In addition, the individual polymorphs were subjected to SEM analysis at selected temperatures during heating. The obtained images revealed pseudomorphs preserving the morphology of the original samples. Thermal analyses identified the recrystallization of aragonite and vaterite into calcite, followed by degradation into CaO. During the measurements, shifts in the temperature intervals (phase transitions and decomposition processes) were observed, with synthetic samples generally showing a shift toward lower temperatures. These results help answer the question of the thermal behaviour of metastable polymorphic modifications of CaCO3 and provide insight into the mechanism of transformation and decomposition processes.

Student přednesl prezentaci na téma Fázové transformace a termická degradace polymorfních modifikací uhličitanu vápenatého. Nejdříve komisi seznámil s motivací a cíli své práce.
