Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the assessment of the influence of R-material and the
temperature of input materials on selected properties of microsurfacing mixtures. The
theoretical part presents an overview of currently used emulsion-based maintenance
technologies and a literature review concerning the use of R-material in microsurfacing.
Special attention is paid to the influence of temperature on the behavior of emulsion
mixtures and to the specific characteristics of mixtures containing R-material.
The practical part of the thesis is focused on the laboratory preparation of microsurfacing
mixtures with different R-material contents and on the evaluation of their properties at
various temperatures of input materials. The investigated properties include breaking
time, development of cohesion, and resistance to wheel tracking. Based on the obtained
results, the suitability of partial and full replacement of virgin aggregate by R-material in
microsurfacing mixtures was assessed.
The results indicate that the behavior of microsurfacing mixtures containing R-material is
significantly influenced by the temperature of the input materials and the R-material
content, which should be taken into account when designing mixture compositions and
their application.
