Abstract:

The thesis deals with the analysis of the results of using a contactless, optical, non-destructive method of digital image correlation in a selected functional test of asphalt mixtures. This is a modified fatigue resistance test according to the Czech version of the European standard ČSN EN 12697-24. The thesis builds on the results of previous research from a bachelor's thesis: The use of digital image correlation in asphalt mixture testing. The theoretical part describes the literature dealing with cracks in asphalt mixtures, describes the digital image correlation method, and summarizes the research of professional literature dealing with the use of the digital image correlation method for monitoring fatigue cracks in asphalt mixtures using different test methods. In the practical part,test specimens were first produced for a modified fatigue resistance test from two asphalt mixtures representing asphalt concrete with different grain sizes. As part of the modified fatigue resistance test, the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks, their parameters and characteristics were observed on the given specimens made of asphalt mixtures using the digital image correlation method. Two digital image correlation systems were used to observe fatigue cracks and subsequently evaluate image correlation: a monochromatic 2D-DIC and a stereoscopic 3D-DIC system. The conclusion of the thesis summarizes the results and findings from the use of digital image correlation in this thesis.
