Abstract:

The subject of this diploma thesis is the design and structural analysis of a steel structure for the roofing of a shopping arcade. The structure is located in an urban area in Brno and is designed as an open structure without perimeter walls with a glazed roof covering. The roofing has plan dimensions of approximately 90.0 × 30.0 m and a maximum structural height of 20.0 m.
The load-bearing structure consists of a system of truss girders supported by steel columns. The columns are designed as fixed, while the supports of the trusses are designed as pinned. The individual trusses are arranged at an axial spacing of 10.0 m and are longitudinally connected by a system of purlins and spatial bracing, which ensures the overall stability of the structure.
The steel structure is designed using rolled and tubular sections made of structural steel grade S355 in accordance with applicable standards.
Within the thesis, three structural variants of the roofing were developed, differing mainly in the concept of the trusses. For each variant, a spatial computational model was created in the SCIA Engineer software and structural analyses were performed in accordance with the Eurocodes for both the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state. Based on the comparison of material consumption and structural behaviour, Variant No. 1 was selected as the most suitable solution.
