This master’s thesis focuses on possibilities for reducing the energy demand of historic buildings while preserving their heritage and architectural value. The topic was selected in response to increasing requirements for improved energy efficiency of buildings, as well as the constraints arising from the protection of cultural heritage. The aim of the thesis is to analyse suitable energy efficiency measures applicable to a listed heritage building and to carry out their preliminary energy, economic and environmental assessment. The practical part is prepared in the form of a case study of the château in Světlá nad Sázavou, where the building’s heat demand is calculated for several design variants. The results primarily serve to compare the individual variants and to assess their potential benefits. The methodology of the practical part is based on the calculation of heat losses through the building envelope and ventilation, supported by available design documentation, on-site investigation, and accessible cost and emission data. The evaluation is complemented by an investment-oriented perspective, taking into account operating costs, simple payback period, and the extent of intervention into the architectural character of the building. The thesis provides a practical insight into decision-making processes related to energy efficiency measures in historic buildings and may serve as a methodological reference for owners, facility managers, and designers of similar heritage-protected structures.
