Course detail

Computer support for technical and managerial work

FEKT-BTMPAcad. year: 2010/2011

The course is to acquaint students with the basics of systems for modeling and solving technical and managerial work with advanced computer technology - CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) - SolidWorks, Cosmos FloWorks, CosmosEMS, Ansys (in successive courses the students can obtain certificates of training for most of these systems).
Linking the systems in production by the systems for production control CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing).
A brief introduction to the managerial control systems and enterprise data management (PDM Product Data Management).
Students also become familiar with the system PhotoWorks for animated virtual models, and proposed solutions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

In the fields of electrical engineering students will be able to production model and simulate a technical problem with CAE system, receive a basic overview of how the use of CAM and PDM systems. This gives the students practical experience in the spectrum of CAD-CAM-CAE-PDM support for technical and managerial work.

Prerequisites

They required knowledge of computer technology at the level of secondary education.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

30 count - work over semester
70 count - test in last semester

Course curriculum

Lectures:
Overview of computer systems supporting technical and managerial work: CAD-CAM-CAE-PDM. Their division options.
The current development of computer support - transition from 2D CAD systems (AutoCAD) 3D Systems working methods of electronic product definition (EPD - Electronics Product Definition) using SolidWorks.
PhotoWorks - extension for creating presentations of SolidWorks models including virtual movies.
Cosmos EMS - a system for modeling the electric and magnetic fields.
COSMOSFloWorks - a system for modeling and heat transfer modeling in the flow of liquids and gases.
ANSYS - the possibility of using the system, focusing on the core used in electrical engineering.
SolidCAM - sample output having a direct link to production management.
PDMWorks - a description of emerging trends in management control and management of business data using Product Data Management (PDM).

Exercise:
The difference between the explicit method (AutoCAD) and electronic product definition (SolidWorks). Creating 3D models using SolidWorks.
Making a presentation by video (*. avi) using the Environment PhotoWorks.
The distribution of currents in the electrode systems (EMS Cosmos).
Analysis of electric and magnetic fields, modeling tracks of electrically charged particles in these fields (Cosmos EMS Simion).
Flow of gases in the vacuum pumping equipment for electron microscopy (Cosmos FloWorks).
PC Cooling Systems Analysis (Cosmos FloWorks).
Analysis of the soldering process (Cosmos FloWorks), thermodynamics, soldering metal diffusion analysis (ANSYS).
Production Control (SolidCAM).
Managing the flow of business data in a PDMWorks system.
