English III

FSI-4A3Acad. year: 2005/2006

English III follows on to English I and English II.Within General English it continues to develop the four language skills,(speaking, listening, reading, writing ),emphasizing the ability of the student to communicate in everyday situations.
Within Technical English it extends basic technical terminology and encourages students to analyse more difficult technical texts.
Since the beginning of the term 2000/2001 English language courses
have been organized as follows 1) classroom courses - 2 hours a week
2) computer lab. courses (Call)
2 hours once per 2weeks
(odd and even weeks)

Learning outcomes of the course unit

English III provides opportunity to acquire and develop higher level communication skills.Within Technical
English it extends basic technical terminology and encourages student to analyse more difficult technical
texts using dictionary by his work.

Prerequisites

English III follows up on English I and English II. (on pre-intermediate level)

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit conditions: Attendance at classroom and Call courses,fulfilment of continuous assessment conditions.
If the student doesn't fulfil these conditions, in certain cases teacher may determine alternative condition.
Exam consists of two parts - oral and written. The written part contains revision of grammar,lexical structures and technical texts. The maximum number of points for this part is 100. If the student gets less
than 50 points, he fails and can't continue with oral part.The oral part includes conversation on a variety
of topics.

Aims

The course continues to develop the four language skills (reading,listening,speaking,writing )focused
on more difficult general and technical texts (instructions, descriptions, forms). Student learns to express
himself more effectively on a variety of topics.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Student is allowed to have two absences with leave at classroom courses.If the number of absences is higher,
student is obliged to compensate them in the earliest possible time. In certain cases teacher may determine
alternative condition.
