Transport structures: introduction to transport structures, interesting facts about transport, road structures - briefly the principles of route design and design, local / access roads, materials for roads and technology for the construction of flexible pavement roads, railway structures - briefly the principles of design and the main differences from roads, materials for railways and technology for the construction.
Construction of buildings: introduction to basic building construction systems, Basic materials used for masonry, concrete, metal and wooden structures. Principles of design of load-bearing structures, concept of limit states, reliability of structures, climatic loads. Calculations of internal forces, characteristics of cross-sections of building elements and principles of their assessment.

Entry knowledge
Knowledge: The student understands and can analyze the properties of basic building materials and can recognize their use in building structures.
Skills: The student evaluates and compares the properties of basic building materials and structures, records the influence of environmental conditions on basic building structures (changes in temperature, state of the material).
Competence: The student can use the acquired knowledge and skills in the context of determining the optimal use of road materials and basic building structures.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
Lectures
Participation in lectures is optional, but recommended.The course ends with a written exam for both parts of the course.To be eligible for the exam, credit for the exercises is required.The requirement for successfully passing the exam is knowledge and overall understanding of the issues discussed within both parts of the course.
Exercises
Participation in exercises is mandatory.Successful completion of the exercise is a credit.The condition for obtaining credit is regular attendance at classes and processing of assigned individual practical examples (tasks).
Aims
Professional knowledge
The student understands and is able to use basic terminology in the field of design and assessment of load-bearing structures and transport structures. The student is able to summarize and classify individual types of load-bearing structures and transport structures. The student distinguishes basic types of building materials and their properties.
Skills
The student is able to further use the above knowledge in relation to further work and development of skills in the field of design and assessment of load-bearing structures and transport structures. He is able to determine the basic loads of structures and is able to work with basic principles, rules and procedures in the design of selected metal, wooden and concrete structures, as well as within the framework of transport structures (road and railway).
Competencies
The student is able to use the above knowledge and skills in further study of more demanding issues of detailed principles and procedures in the design of load-bearing structures and transport structures.

Exercise
1. Organizational guidelines, introduction to the issues of transport structures, width arrangement of roadways.2. Design of directional solution of roadway route.3. Design of elevation solution of roadway route.4. Design of roadway structure with basic determination of quantity and price of building materials.5. Excursion to a significant transport structure.6. Design documentation of transport structures – basic orientation in drawing documentation.7. Loading of building structures, basic types, terminology, methodology, combination of load cases. Calculation of permanent and useful loads.8. Ceiling structures – calculation of loads.9. Ceiling structures – calculation of internal forces, principle of element design.10. Individual preparation for an ending of the course
The course is divided into two parts: "construction" and "transportation structures".
