Aims

After successfully completing the course, the student will acquire the following knowledge and skills:

  • Ability to design reinforced concrete beam structures and simple spread foundations.
  • Ability to understand the behaviour of slab, deep beams and wall concrete structures.
  • Ability to design slab, deep beam and wall concrete structures.

Syllabus

  1. Cast-in-place multi-storey frame RC structures – system arrangement, loading, design of dimensions, space stiffness-bracing.
  2. Multi-storey frame structures – structural analysis, reduction and redistribution of internal forces, reinforcement detailing, constructive principles.
  3. Precast structures – industrial halls – types of hall and hall elements, structural arrangement, joints, loads, structural analysis.
  4. Precast structures – multi-storey frames (structural arrangement, elements and connections, ceiling structures action).
  5. Spread cast-in-place foundation structures – reinforced and plain concrete footing, design of single footing – effect of bending moment and punching.
  6. Spread cast-in-place foundation structures – footing strips, grid foundation, slab foundation, design for effect of bending moment and shear, reinforcement detailing, constructive principles.
  7. Two-way edge supported slabs – simple supported and fixed slabs, structural arrangement, structural analysis, reinforcement detailing, constructive principles.
  8. Continuous two-way slabs – principle of solution, reinforcement arrangement. Slabs partially edge supported.
  9. Design of RC members according to Serviceability limit state (ULS) – stress limitation.
  10. Design of RC members according to Serviceability limit state (ULS) – cracks control, deflection control.
  11. Simple supported and continuous deep beams, design principles and reinforcement detailing, constructive principles.
  12. Retaining walls (types and design).
  13. Work joints and expansion gaps in structures. Manufacturing and control of structures.

Syllabus

  1. Cast-in-place multi-storey frame RC structures – preliminary dimensions design, simplified scheme of the frame structure, load, load cases for the inner frame.
  2. Structural analysis and internal forces on the frame.
  3. Structural analysis and internal forces on the frame – combination of effect of load cases.
  4. Primary beam design for effect of bending moment and shear (stirrups, eventually also bent up bars).
  5. Reinforcement curtailment of primary beam. Correction.
  6. Inner column design.
  7. Design and structural analysis of single foundation footing under the internal column.
  8. Drawings of reinforcement of the primary beam, single foundation footing and column. Correction.
  9. Two-way slab – preliminary design, load, internal forces, reinforcement design.
  10. Reinforcement using rebars or welded wire mesh. Reinforcement scheme.
  11. Serviceability limit state – deflection and crack control.
  12. Final correction.
  13. Project submission. Credit.
