Geographical Information Systems 1

  1. Introduction, definition of GIS, basic concepts. History of GIS, relationship between GIS and other fields. Geographic object, transformation of geographic data.
  2. Information systems (IS). General model and functions of IS, types of IS (Anthony's paradigm).
  3. Information systems in state administration and local government (eGovernment, basic registers), ISKN structure (center, branches, WAN, application database, table types).
  4. BIM technology, BIM concept in the Czech Republic, CDE, BIM - GIS relationship, building identification number, building life cycle.
  5. Database systems: spatial SQL queries, spatial data structures (indexes), R - trees. Data warehouses, deductive databases.
  6. Topology. Definition, mathematical and pragmatic concept of topology. Topology according to the DIGEST standard topological entities, relationships and rules, hierarchy of topological levels (spaghetti, chain of nodes, planar graph, full topology).
  7. Spatial data organization. Basic models of vector and raster representation according to topology, matrix data.
  8. Metadata, standards, data quality (database and user level), data errors in GIS (error typology).
  9. INSPIRE Directive, GeoInfoStrategy.
  10. Digital terrain model (DTM), definition, types of DTM. Raster and vector DTM model. Irregular triangular network (TIN), description, data structure.
  11. Sources of geographic data in the Czech Republic (ČÚZK, ZÚ), web map services (WMS, WFS, WCS).
  12. Map algebra. Model concept, types of variables and functions, types of analyses.
  13. GIS in crisis management.

  • 2. Information systems with spatial reference, application in state administration (ISKN, GeoInfoStrategie).
  • 3. Database with spatial reference, spatial SQL, spatial indices.
  • 4. Topology, DIGEST standard.
  • 5. Data models in GIS, raster, vector, matrix data, mobile GIS.
  • 6. Metadata, quolity description, typology of errors in GIS.
  • 7. Digital terrain model (basic information).
  • 8. Data Sources for GIS in the Czech Republic and abroad,
  • 9. GIS on-line, web mapping services, mobile GIS.
  • 10. Map algebra, model conception, type of variables and functions.
  • 11. Basic spatial analysis (overview).
  • 12. GIS in crisis management, applications.
  • 13. Overview and characteristics of current GIS, prospects of further development of GIS.
