Entry knowledge

A student who enrolls in the course should be able to:
- analyze electronic circuits with passive components, transistors and operational amplifiers,
- create software in the programming language C.
Work in the laboratory is conditioned by a valid qualification of "person knowledgeable for independent work", which students must obtain before starting classes. Information on this qualification can be found in the Dean's Directive Acquainting Students with Safety Regulations.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Course evaluation:
Practicals - 40 points.
Final exam - 60 points.
Minimum for the credit - 20 points.
Computer exercises are mandatory. Properly excused absence from exercises can be replaced by appointment with the teacher.
The method of teaching is determined by the annually updated decree of the subject guarantor.

Aims

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the design of electronic devices in a complex concept so that students can combine the theory of the design methodology with practical application to the final version, including the certification of the product in terms of quality and production technology.
The course is divided into two parts, where the first part is devoted to: the area of design methodology; design and development project management; the Design for X (DFX) approach; methods and tools for quality planning and technical production preparation. The second part of the course covers selected parts of electronic device design, in particular introducing the principles of printed circuit board design; design of systems in low power modes; design of input/output devices and last but not least, it also covers areas related to electromagnetic compatibility and certification of the final product.
The graduate of the course is able to:
  • explain the procedure, process and project of electronic device design;
  • list the necessary legislative requirements for the marketing of the designed device;
  • describe the basic properties of bipolar and unipolar transistors and how they affect the performance of signal amplifiers
  • describe the technical aspects of managing the design and development of the new device;
  • explain and optimize the design of a printed circuit board to achieve the desired product quality;
  • explain the potential pitfalls of electronic device design from an electromagnetic compatibility perspective.
Part of the subject is the solution of a semester project, which aims to practically verify the students' abilities in the design of an electronic device.
