Financial Practice in Entrepreneurship

The course focuses on the practical aspects of corporate finance management, in particular on basic cash flow monitoring, pricing decisions and the use of common financial tools and digital systems used in business practice. Students will gain an overview of the functioning of everyday financial processes in business and acquire practical skills needed to manage basic financial and administrative activities in the environment of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The course is based on team project work. Student assessment is derived from ongoing activity during the semester, as well as the preparation and defense of the team project. The course is concluded with a graded credit. The assessment consists of the following components:

  • Active individual participation of the student in teamwork (15%)
  • Written documentation of the project's ongoing progress (20%)
  • Ongoing presentations of the team project during the lessons (30%)
  • Final team presentation and defense of the project (35%)

There is no written exam at the end of the course.

  • understands the basic principles of entrepreneurship and financial management of small and medium-sized enterprises,
  • has knowledge of accounts receivable and payable management, including payment planning,
  • understands accounting documents, basic recording principles, and the use of accounting software,
  • has knowledge of cost management, cost optimization, and basic tax obligations,
  • understands the processes of financial closing and communication with public authorities and institutions.

Professional Competencies

  • apply basic financial management principles in everyday business practice,
  • prepare a simple business budget and cash flow plan,
  • manage receivables and payables and create payment schedules,
  • work with accounting documents and basic functions of accounting or business software,
  • prepare basic financial reports and interpret their results,
  • navigate tax obligations and mandatory reporting requirements,
  • communicate with relevant institutions (e.g., tax authorities, banks).

Professional Skills

  • processes accounting documents and records basic business transactions,
  • uses digital tools and software for recording, reporting, and data visualization,
  • analyses costs and proposes their optimization,
  • prepares supporting documents for tax returns and participates in month-end closing,
