Aims

In this course, students explore how different cultures create meaning around key contemporary and often controversial issues. The focus is on understanding the values, beliefs, and assumptions that shape how people think, communicate, and act in various societies. Through discussion, students examine how language reflects ideology and how technology, economics, and social change influence identity. They also compare cultural perspectives on concepts such as freedom, fairness, progress, success, gender, and belonging. The course is guided by one central question: how do different societies imagine the good life? In doing so, students develop both speaking skills and intercultural awareness.
